Different materials for different needs
- Pitrun - Pit run is a mixture of gravel, sand, and clay that is dug from the ground. Pitrun is commonly used as a base layer for new driveways where some additional stability is required. It is also a good cost effective choice to build up low areas effectively prior to laying the actual driveway material of choice. This material is unsuitable for any area where grass, flowers, shrubs or trees will be growing.

- Fill Material - Fill material is low grade material commonly used to build up layers of soil, to fill in low areas in property. It is usually composed of a mixture of sand, natural soil, rock and other organic debris. It is frequently used in new home construction for backfilling prior to adding top soil. Some suppliers sell screened fill material, which filters out larger rocks. Some also sell less expensive un-screened fill that will likely contain larger rock, sometimes pieces of debris.

- Top soil - Top soil is a premium manufactured soil mixture designed for lawn, flower and vegetable areas. Top soil is commonly sold in at least 2 grades, a 50/50 blend of sand and loamy soil, which is usually the less expensive and 3 way top soil, which is a 3 way blend of sand, loamy soil and compost. The compost additive will help improve drainage of the soil and it is a good choice for areas that have existing poor drainage.

- Compost - Compost is organic materials or manure that has composted and broken down into a soil-like organic material. It is commonly used for lawn areas to improve drainage and also for flower/vegetable growing areas to provide drainage and also to provide some nutrients to the soil.

Frequently asked questions:

Premium Topsoil- This is the growing material needed for lawn areas, vegetable garden, flower gardens and landscape beds for tree/shrubs. Topsoil typically is available in (2) grades;

1. 50/50 topsoil, which is one part loamy soil mixed with one part sand. This topsoil type is less expensive and is suitable for areas that have adequate soil drainage.

2. 3 way topsoil, which is one part loamy soil, one part compost, one part sand. This topsoil type is more expensive and is suitable for areas with poor drainage as well as vegetable/flower gardens.

Fill material- This is less expensive dirt material that is commonly used to cost effectively fill in low spots in your yard. Grass typically grows poorly in fill, so topsoil is installed on top for a growing medium. Some suppliers offer less expensive unscreened fill that will contain larger rocks and screened fill which usually does not contain larger rocks.

Compost- For areas with poor drainage, including garden beds and lawn areas that have a lot of moss, we recommend improving the soil with compost, which will improve drainage. The most commonly available and least expensive compost will be horse/steer composted manure. Vegetable compost is the more expensive and is more difficult to source.

We can arrange to measure the area where your material will be installed so you will know exactly how much material you will need. Although we don't deliver the material directly,

1. We can either provide you with the contact numbers for the soil/gravel suppliers in your area if you prefer to coordinate delivery of the material prior to us coming to install the material.

2. We can coordinate the delivery and of the material for you. In such cases, we require a deposit for the cost of the delivered materials prior to delivery.

Our machine needs a minimum of a 5 foot opening in any gates or fences and adequate access to install the material.

It is helpful to move any obstacles such as furniture, lawnmowers, gardening equipment, tools etc or other obstructions out of the way before we arrive to allow for the job to proceed in a timely manner.
